Permission to Eat Differently

Food is awesome. Let that be understood. Eating food is way better than starving yourself and if you can read this then you also have the ability to choose what food you eat. Everyone has preferences. Some people are picky eaters while others make conscious choices not to eat certain foods. People have intolerances and allergies. Food is an adventure and you can be different.

Sometimes our tastes change and we discover new flavours we haven’t tried before. Sweet or Sour. Salty or savoury. Spicy or bland. It’s an experience and having different tastes is a wonderful trait to have. It shows you are open to new experiences and flavours. You are not afraid to try new things and the people you date notice that.

Being different in your food choices makes you unique. Even picky eaters have reasoning behind their food choices. You choose what to put inside your body and no one can tell you otherwise. If you decide you want to change something about your diet then that is entirely up to you. No one should influence your decision.

Almost two years ago, I decided to become a pescartarian (meaning the only meat I consume is fish). I had dozens of people telling me I would get sick or have B12 deficiency. They couldn’t understand my choice while they chewed on Big Macs and other unhealthy meat options. In the meantime, I improved my diet with healthy alternatives. I would have foods rich with nutrients and vitamins and I started feeling so much better. I started noticing a difference in my body and my energy. After a while everyone started noticing the difference in me and they started to alter things in their diet as well. Not quite to my extreme but I started noticing them pick healthy opinions instead of their usual choices.

In the end, my choice to eat differently from the people around me helped me feel better. Even though everyone questioned me at first after a while they started to understand. I don’t feel I am depriving myself of anything. It has become part of my life now and made me a much healthier person for it. Eating differently can help make you feel better about your body and have less digestive issues. Listen to what your body needs and don’t be afraid to try something new.
